Maestros of Design – Builders of ‘Made in Germany’

German design is the benchmark of technology and design. It is all about innovation, functionality, and quality. Made in Germany is the hallmark of advanced and robust design and automotive design. From watches to laptops and even kitchens, German design creates not just a product but an experience.

Being the land of inventions, Germany has some of the world’s best schools of design. Here we will highlight briefly about the schools of design and architecture that attract students from across the world. Studying in these design schools can open up a world of opportunities.

Bauhaus -German School Of Design

Bauhaus Design School, also included architecture and applied arts, was established in Germany in 1919. It was based in Weimar until 1925, then relocated to Dessau through 1932, and finally it was shifted to Berlin. However, thereafter, the school was shut down.
Established by the architect Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus was a combination of two schools – the Weimar Academy of Arts and the Weimar School of Arts and Crafts. The school provided design courses to students in art and technical craftsmanship.

The Bauhaus had on board a team of eminent faculty that included several outstanding artists of the 20th century like Marcel Breuer - Bauhaus Furniture Master. The Bauhaus had far-reaching influence on students of art and architecture. Its teaching methods and ideas were transmitted throughout the world by faculty and students. Today, nearly every art curriculum includes foundation courses on the Bauhaus model where it is mandatory for students to learn about the fundamental elements of design.

German Interior Design

Design in Germany was mostly about industrial design rather than luxurious interiors. The unmatchable design work from places like Italy, France, Great Britain, and the United States has overpowered Germany. Nowadays, designers are trying to build on the long-lost tradition of design and functionality had taken a backseat. Interior design in Germany has always been inspired by craftsmanship, with the Bauhaus era ushering an industrial approach into the design world.
